The Role

The Product Manager is responsible for leading how Bango builds products that meet the product promise. You will collaborate with product marketing who define the promise for the market, where you will define the whole product including requirements and roadmap, working with product development who own the solution architecture and delivery. This role drives product development and stakeholder activities so that the best product is built, leading its evolution and continued improvement, as well as ensuring competitive advantage in the market.

The Product Manager evangelizes the power of the Bango products, championing internally and with customers, ensuring what is promised is delivered on time. This role must foster a culture of product innovation to always push for imaginative ideas on how the Bango products will be improved, as well as exploring new areas of opportunity for where to take the products next.

The Person

Bango are looking for an experienced leader in the product management space, someone known for being a product visionary and advocate for how to build and deliver the best product. You must be market aware and an excellent communicator, wanting to get customer feedback yourself to validate the product roadmap as well as stimulate ideas for which market problems to solve.

Job Responsibilities

  • Is a champion for and evangelizes their product - selling and presenting the product to internal audiences and representing the product externally to customers
  • Responsible for developing product and portfolio strategy including providing updates to management and the wider business
  • Responsible for portfolio positioning, collaborating with the development team on release planning, and stakeholder management
  • Responsible for managing and delivering the product roadmap, working with product development and product marketing to negotiate priorities and trade deliverables against time
  • Effectively communicates the product strategy, roadmap and changes arising to internal stakeholders.Managers stakeholders' expectations of product capability and timing.
  • Tracks product performance indicators such as revenue and market share, gaining insights from sales and support as well as gathering product usage analytics
  • Answers questions and resolves product issues such as internal process issues, resolving sales queries, making trade-offs and priority calls
  • Leads product owners to gather, analyse, prioritize and document product requirements from defining personas and use cases, to producing the product backlog and providing product context for developers
  • Supports product development by discussing requirements, making feature and design trade-offs, performing tests and approval of delivered sprint work
  • Responsible for the roll-out of the product, directing changes across the business processes, communicating, ensuring effective training is provided, and manages internal and external product trials
  • Supports product marketing with go to market planning and execution, promoting the product, provides input when developing sales material, and supports the sales team
  • Collaborates with product marketing on new product areas, provides input on pricing strategies, acts on market research, handles customer and sales team feedback, and performing competitive research

Essential skills and experience

  • Adaptable - can deal with fast moving opportunities and new challenges. Can manage with uncertainty, and ensures things are not missed when delivering the product
  • Good at defending the product roadmap without being rigid or dogmatic, needing to ward off challenges that could breach the product
  • Must be completely invested in the product, but respond well to challenges against it - ensuring resolutions to challenges are effectively communicated, and able to admit when wrong and agree on a unified path forward
  • Bias towards interpreting customer needs or pains directly rather than indirectly, needing to be in front of customers to demonstrate the strength of their product - and to validate that the product solves the problems for the customer and in the market
  • Is fearless and can be demanding when it means making their product successful - whether working with the timing and quality output from development, interactions with sales team, or needs from product marketing
  • Excellent at building credibility with adjacent functional groups and customers
  • Able to define the “whole product” - plan and communicate dependencies across all functional teams, including finance, support, documentation etc. 
  • Proven ability to work closely with customers and internal stakeholders to discover their problems and pains - being an excellent listener and determining underlying needs and new opportunities
  • Proven multi-year experience in a product management / product ownership leadership role
  • Needs to travel worldwide to meet customers and represent Bango at events
  • Must have great communication skills, including ability to listen and understand, questioning to confirm and where uncertain
  • Ability to present internally and externally concisely and with clarity to all audiences - both technical, non-technical, junior and senior

Desirable skills and experience

  • Experience in mobile app / game development
  • Experience in data marketing and data-based products
  • Knowledge of advertising networks, attribution platforms and media agencies
  • Experience of selling and commercial negotiations always helps
  • Technical education ideally to degree level is an advantage
  • Understanding of mobile operators, mobile technology and carrier payment is a benefit
