Following the rapid adoption of the Bango Platform by key customers and a sustained market growth, Bango is hiring a Business Development Director to capitalize on the significant opportunities in the LATAM region. 

 

The Role & Responsibilities

This new role will drive increased success for the Bango Platform and Bango Customers across the Central and South America markets, USA, and Canada, by:

  1. Expanding and deepening the use of the Bango Platform including Direct Carrier Billing (DCB), Resale and Bango Marketplace with MNO’s and selected merchants.
  2. Win new Google Play DCB business and Bango Marketplace agreements with mobile network operators, and other payment partners.
  3. Migrate service providers using direct integrations of 3rd party integrators over to the Bango Platform. 

Reporting into the Regional Vice President of Business Development in the Americas, this role will take full responsibility for all Sales and Business Development across the Latin America region.

The role will be heavily customer-facing towards mobile network operators and key global merchants. He/she will need to quickly understand any customer resistance or ideas and be able to translate these clearly and efficiently to the rest of the Bango team.

The role will have an emphasis on taking the Bango Platform benefits to an expanded range of customers who are able to use the unique technology and data to grow their revenues, and the revenues and customer reach for industry leaders such as Amazon, Google, Microsoft and Spotify and other leading merchants.

Working within a complex environment, Bango is looking for an individual who can mobilize around Bango’s strategy and identifying new business opportunities in the assigned markets leading to further growth. The individual will have the intellect, experience and interpersonal skills to make a positive and persuasive contribution to the future development of Bango’s strategy.  

It is crucial that the incoming candidate has the ability to drive the culture to a more ‘curious’ and business orientated business development function that delivers a high degree of cross-selling internationally and provides high quality information internally and externally.  The mindset needs to be one of ‘how can Bango uniquely grow sales faster for key customers’ and ‘how can Bango and I make a real difference in the marketplace’.

Key tasks/scope:

  1. Define the Bango mobile network operator sales and business development plans, pricing, contracts and customer relationships to ensure their coherence and alignment with Bango strategy within the assigned markets.
  2. Identify, prospect, secure and manage qualified customers across the assigned markets and take full responsibility for own performance.
  3. Ability to confidently and articulately present Bango to global customers and large partners.
  4. Able to manage own time with extensive travel commitments to maximise sales performance.
  5. Manage own sales targets and business objectives
  6. Work closely with product marketing to ensure Bango presentation, product propositions to increase sales performance.
  7. Maintain and keep CRM updated with an accurate status of all opportunities and agreed next steps.
  8. Communicate, refine and implement the business development strategy.
  9. Maintain a close and constructive working relationship with established customers, as well as new relationships.

Qualities

This is a key role and, therefore, it is important that the successful candidate has the right blend of the following skills and experience.

The Person - Ideal experience:

  • Significant sales & business development experience in the service provider industry, software or IT services
  • A history of delivering measurable success including new customers and revenue in a highly competitive market.
  • Knowledge and experience of e-commerce, m-commerce or carrier billing would be an advantage.
  • Proven operational and strategic sales expertise in an internet-based business
  • Partnership oriented working with an ability to understand and grow success around Bango
  • Sales and business experience across Central and South American markets.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and Spanish. Portuguese is desirable (not essential) 
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills
  • Exceptional energy and enthusiasm to win and defend business in a fast-paced, competitive and global market.
  • A sharp intellect backed by relevant experience of handling complexity and diversity with different customer business models and in different countries and cultures.

Essential demonstrable understanding:

  • Fluent English and Spanish language skills. Portuguese desirable.
  • Understanding of the market Bango operates in, with a technology background.
  • A recent history of success in winning in a highly competitive market.
  • Strong people motivation and management skills.

Desirables Understanding / Experience:

  • Experience working with mobile network operators and global merchants.
  • Experience in an Internet platform business.

The ideal candidate will need to understand the dynamics of technology (. Ideally, he/she would currently be working in a business that deals with many of the same mobile operators/carriers or app/platform providers and will be selling a service or solution to or alongside these businesses.

Location

Primary base will be the Bango Inc San Jose, California office (other US locations will also be considered) with extensive international travel across South America, particularly in the first six months.

The role holder may typically travel internationally approximately 50% of their time in every month.
