The Role & Responsibilities

The rapid adoption of Bango Platform mobile commerce platform by industry leaders has opened new opportunities for mobile operators to generate new revenue streams from their consumer payment activity and to improve customer satisfaction. Operators in Asia and the Americas have been first movers in seeing these new opportunities, and Bango now wants to help those in Europe, Middle East and Africa follow their lead, join the Bango circle and thrive.

Your newly created role has two primary objectives:

  1. To accelerate the engagement of mobile operators as providers of payment data to the Bango Platform where it can be securely and safely monetized using unique Bango technology and the global reach of the Bango Marketplace.
  2. To open new payment opportunities for the MNOs with the leading merchants such as Google, Amazon and Microsoft that are integrated with the Bango platform.

A key metric will be the revenue generated for mobile operators though Marketplace.

Your role will involve evangelizing the opportunity to mobile operators, sharing the success stories of those that have already entered the Bango circle and are thriving, and understanding and unblocking any resistance within operators to this exciting new revenue opportunity for them.

You are representing a unique and highly compelling product but you will find the role challenging: Operators have complex and diverse decision making processes, and vary from forward thinking and dynamic to very conservative.  An understanding of the group vs local country dynamics and the way that the leading merchants work with Bango will be essential to grasp to progress business at pace.

Bango has a strong partnering ethos which means a degree of co-opetition with payment hubs or payment aggregators and integrators is likely.

You will have the intellect, experience and interpersonal skills to make a positive and persuasive contribution to the future development of Bango’s strategy. This is a key role within Bango at an exciting stage in the company’s development.

You report to the Senior Vice President Business Development, alongside peers in Asia and North America, and works closely with a team of Merchant and developer facing sales people.

You will take full responsibility for MNO Sales and Business Development across Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Close engagement with the mobile network operators will require extensive travel, and close collaboration with team members in Bango offices around the world. The business development team includes around 9 field people based in Europe, USA, LATAM and Asia, as well as further individuals involved with account management and specific business development initiatives. You will interact closely with Customer Success, Operations, Product Development and Marketing teams. You may also collaborate with the Bango Audiens team based out of UK and Italy where a CDP could be useful to your MNO prospects.

Key tasks/scope:

  1. Identify the right people within the Mobile Operator, and who the other relevant stakeholders are.
  2. Confidently and articulately present Bango to partners, ensuring that Bango is seen as brining substantial additional revenue and profit through unique technology and relationships.
  3. Organize your time and location to maximize your efffectiveness.
  4. Share likely timelines with your colleagues through CRM and other tools and align your efforts towards team and Bango objectives and key results
  5. Work closely with product marketing to ensure Bango presentation, product propositions and campaigns empower performance and eficiency in the role.
  6. Work closely with the Marketing team to provide an environment for sales success
  7. Engage other people in Bango into the business development process, including visits from members of other teams or key execs.
  8. Find inefficiencies in processes and improve the business development/sales process.

It is likely that the information you discover will modify Bango tactics or even strategy so you will need to be able to communicate your findings and share information with your peers and others.

As your achieve success, you may need to expand your team by adding new team members so a track record of successful  team development will be useful.

Qualities

This is a key role and you will be representing Bango to its key partners. You must therefore have the following skills and experience.

Your experience:

  • Proven sales expertise in an internet-based business that worked with very large enterprise customers or suppliers.
  • A history of delivering measurable success including new customers or partners and revenue in a highly competitive market.
  • Demonstrable sales leadership, the skills to mentor and motivate a broad team with diverse skills and experience levels.
  • Significant sales & business development experience in the mobile industry, software or IT services
  • Partnership oriented working with an ability to understand and grow success around Bango
  • Experience in the European, Middle East and African markets
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills
  • Exceptional energy and enthusiasm to win and defend business in a fast-paced, competitive and global market.
  • A sharp intellect backed by relevant experience of handling complexity and diversity with different customer business models and in different countries and cultures.

Essential demonstrable understanding:

  • Understanding of the market Bango operates in, with a technology background.
  • A recent history of success in winning in a highly competitive market.
  • Strong people motivation, leadership and management skills.

Desirables Understanding / Experience:

  • Experience in an Internet platform business.
  • European (e.g. French, Spanish) language skills
  • Experience working with app developers and global merchants

You will need to understand or quickly learn the dynamics of technology (ideally mobile) based payments sector, to clearly and concisely articulate the consequences of not delivering against objectives. Ideally, you are working in a business that deals with many of the same mobile operators/carriers or app/platform providers and will be selling a service or solution to or alongside these businesses.

Location

Primary base will be in Bango Cambridge office, but with extensive international travel, particularly in the first six months. The role holder may typically travel internationally approximately 1-2 weeks in every month.
